North Smaland Regiment

The regiment was raised in 1928 as "Jönköping-Kalmar Regiment (I 12)"
after a merger of Jönköping (12) and Kalmar (I 21) Regiments.
In the
same year the Regiment was stationed in Eksjö.
In 1948, the unit was
renamed to "Norra Småland Regemente" (I 12).
In 1974 the Regiment
formed with Jonkopings Defense Area (Fo 17) a Defensive Field Regiment to be
known as "The 12/Fo 17". When both the Kronoberg (I 11) and Kalmar (For 18)
Regiments were dismantled in 1997. Smålands regiment took over responsibility
for the Kronoberg (Fo 16) and Kalmar (Fo 18) Defense Areas and integrated
the Jönköping Defense Area, to form the Smålands Defense Area (For
17).
