South-West African Territorial Force Buttons
The South West African Territorial Force (SWATF) was formed on 1 August 1980
from Southwest Africans serving as personnel in SADF units.
It was an
auxiliary of the South African Defence Force until the independence of South
West Africa (Republic of Namibia) in 1990.
The first major step in the
establishment of an independent territorial defence force in SWA was the
introduction of a new uniform on 6 September 1979 through which SWA units could
be distinguished from SADF units.
