German-American Volksfest

German-American Volksfest

The first German-American Volksfest was opened on July 29th 1961 still without specific theme and ended on August 13. On this day the East German regime began with the isolation activities at the sector borders with West Berlin, which ended with the construction of the Berlin Wall.

All of the following festivals had a specific topic which were each represented on the main road. The festival was always a special point in the German-American Relations in Berlin.

The last "Real" Volksfest was in 1994, shortly before the last American Troops left Berlin in September.
