Air Formation Signals
The AFS were formed in 1917 as an independent Signals Unit for Ground Communications Support of the Royal Flying Corps, which became the RAF in 1918. TheAFS Units were incorporated into the Royal Corps of Signals in 1920 when the Signals branch of the Royal Engineers was given a Status as an independant Corps.
